Business in the Community is a business-led charity focused on promoting responsible business practice. More than 240 companies in Northern Ireland are members and make an impact across four theme areas of the environment, workplace, cohesive communities and economic impact.

In Detail

The BEAM Centre is a multi-functional workspace, events, co-working and support centre for the social economy and voluntary and community sectors working in the North West. BEAM offers state-of-the-art office facilities including the following: professional administrative and reception support, catering facilities, meeting rooms, conference centre DDI lines, with voicemail personalised answering service, high speed internet access, printing, fax and photocopying facilities.

In addition, Business in the Community can offer extensive business advice on a wide range of development issues. Support to social enterprises combines: one-to-one confidential mentoring sessions, significant networking opportunities, free workshops, pro bono expert advice, signposting and links to private sector and statutory organisations.

BT Connected Communities, as part of the Get IT Together programme, in partnership with the UK charity Citizens Online, are investing resources into this Centre to increase public access to computers and the internet and improve employment opportunities. Six refurbished computers and two laptops have been provided to facilitate computer training programmes tailored to meet user’s requirements and local Digital Champion volunteers along with BT staff have been trained to deliver short informal fin introductory sessions to the computer and Internet.

For more information on courses or volunteering opportunities, please contact the centre.

Maire Coyle, Maydown

"I thoroughly enjoyed the workshop. For an older person who has never turned on a computer, the young volunteers were very encouraging"
