Enniskillen is a medium sized town, located almost exactly in the centre of Fermanagh Dristrict Council area, between the Upper and Lower sections of Lough Erne.
The Cavanaleck Community Association formed in 2000 to address anti-social behaviour and change the negative perception of the Cavanaleck area and improve residents' quality of life through a range of activities provided within the community house.
Cavanaleck is a mixed housing area and is part of the Housing Executive’s Shared Neighbourhood Programme, aimed at supporting and encouraging areas where people choose to live with others, regardless of their religion or race, in a safe and welcoming environment.
The group is managed by a voluntary committee and offers a wide range of support to the local community. With the establishment of The Leaf Centre, leased from the Housing Executive, the Association is able to provide a focal point for residents to meet and work together towards a common goal and encourage communication and coordination.
The inter-agency meetings have also enhanced the capacity of the local community to articulate and identify solutions to their problems.
BT Connected Communities as part of the Get IT Together programme, in partnership with UK charity Citizens Online, has invested 8 refurbished computers to replace their existing old, unreliable computer suite and connected them to superfast broadband.
BT Connected Communities is working closely with the group Volunteer Now and BT to recruit and train Digital Champion volunteers, to deliver short informal fun introductory computer and internet sessions to the local community.
