The Caw/Nelson Drive Action Group was formed in 1998 and operates out of the Crescent Community & Cultural Centre in the heart of the Caw/Nelson Drive Estate, which has 720 homes and almost 3,000 residents, within the Waterside area of Derry~Londonderry.
The Group aims to assist local people to participate in an accessible, affordable programme of activities in a community facility within their own area. A range of age groups, abilities and backgrounds, are targeted to increase their social and personal development, therefore giving them the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
Long-term investment in building relationships will have a lasting impact on the community - through increased learning opportunities, volunteering, cross/inter-community engagement, increased health and emotional wellbeing etc.
BT Connected Communities as part of the Get IT Together programme, in partnership with UK charity Citizens Online are working closely with the group Millennium Volunteers and the local NW Volunteer Centre to recruit and train Digital Champion volunteers, to deliver short informal fun introductory sessions to the computer and internet and/or one to one mentoring support to participants in this Community House.
