In Brief

Pomeroy is a rural village within Cookstown District Council, based in the heart of Mid Ulster in County Tyrone, at the edge of the Sperrin Mountains and is the highest village in Northern Ireland.

This modern community facility and enterprise units are based beside the local forest on the outskirts of the village and is 10 miles from the nearest towns of Cookstown and Dungannon and 18 miles from Omagh. Pomeroy Development Projects Ltd was established as a Limited company with charitable status, to build and manage the Centre which was opened in 2009.

In Detail

This voluntary group aims to improve the health and social wellbeing of local people through providing shared meeting spaces and state of the art conference facilities as well as opportunities for training and employment, increasing social interaction, personal development and employment whilst reducing social and rural isolation. It also provides a range of affordable units of various sizes for business start ups/expansions.

This newly built Centre actively promotes community participation and volunteering – services are run for local people, by local people. The venue has facilitated many interagency and public meetings and community activities such as Reception area for Santa’s Magical Forest, Village Renewal Consultation as well as operating as a conduit for health and community information, and advocates to ensure that services for local people are enhanced.

BT Connected Communities as part of the Get IT Together programme in partnership with the UK Charity, Citizens Online, has invested six refurbished computers and a laptop to help increase public access to computers and superfast fibre broadband, as the nearest public access to the Internet is at least 10 miles away.

BT Connected Communities is working closely with the group, BT, Millennium Volunteers and the local Volunteer Centre to recruit and train Digital Champion volunteers to deliver short informal fun introductory computer and internet sessions to the local community and increase employment opportunities.

For more information on courses or volunteering opportunities, please contact the Centre.
